Gym floors are exposed to heavy use throughout the day. Dust and dirt carried in on shoes, sweat, drinks and everyday use can affect the appearance of rubber flooring over time.
The right care and cleaning routine helps keep rubber tiles looking clean while preserving their surface properties and performance for longer.
So how should rubber flooring be cleaned in fitness clubs and gyms?
How Often Should Rubber Floors Be Cleaned?
Cleaning frequency should be based on how intensively the gym is used and how much dust and dirt builds up.
Under normal conditions, cleaning once or twice a week may be enough. In heavily used areas or where more dust and dirt builds up, the floor can be cleaned more often as needed.
Rather than using strong chemicals every time, it is important to remove surface dust and loose dirt regularly.
How Should Daily Cleaning Be Done?
First, sweep away dust and coarse dirt from the surface. If dry cleaning is not enough, a cleaning product suitable for rubber surfaces can be applied with a mop, cloth or suitable brush.
It is important to use the cleaning product at the recommended dilution. Using more chemicals than necessary does not mean better cleaning.
Can Any Cleaning Product Be Used on Rubber Floors?
No.
Cleaning chemicals that are not suitable for rubber tiles can affect the surface appearance and physical properties of the product over time.
We therefore recommend using cleaning products that are recommended by the manufacturer or that have been confirmed as compatible with rubber surfaces.
When Is Deep Cleaning Needed?
Under normal conditions, rubber floors do not need constant deep cleaning. However, in heavily used gyms, a more thorough clean can be carried out at regular intervals.
Before deep cleaning, the floor should be swept to remove coarse dust and dirt, and the surface should then be cleaned with a correctly diluted cleaning product. After cleaning, allow the floor to dry completely before reopening the gym.
How Should Drink Spills and Stubborn Stains Be Cleaned?
For local stains such as drinks, liquid food or heavy dirt, treat the affected area first rather than cleaning the whole floor. The stain can be removed with a clean cloth or suitable brush without spreading it. For heavy, stubborn stains, apply a suitable cleaning product locally, leave it for a short time, then wipe it off with a clean cloth.
If the same cloth or brush will be used on other tiles, cleaning it thoroughly first helps prevent dirt from being carried to other parts of the floor.
Do Newly Laid Rubber Tiles Need Cleaning?
When laid cleanly, Flexxer rubber tiles do not require any special initial cleaning and are ready to use.
What really matters is that the area is completely free of residues such as cement, paint, oil, solvents and construction dust before the floor is laid. That is why we recommend installing the rubber flooring after the gym’s other construction and decoration work has been completed, wherever possible.
The Right Care Means a Longer-Lasting Rubber Floor
Cleaning gym floors correctly matters not only for hygiene, but also for preserving the appearance and performance of the floor for longer.
Regularly removing dust and dirt, using cleaning products suitable for rubber surfaces and carrying out local or periodic deep cleaning when needed all help keep rubber tiles in good condition for many years.
